Sunday Times (Perth, WA : 1902 - 1954) p. 5 Carruthers-Gibson-Wimbridge On October 4, at Picton Church, a host of friends gathered to witness the marriage of May, second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. Wimbridge, of Picton, to James Carruthers-Gibson. of Bassendean, formerly of Scotland. The Rev. Father O'Grady officiated. The bride, who entered the church on the arm of her father, was tastefully gowned In a frock of beige georgette pintucked and inlet with matching lace, with shoes and stockings to tone, her hat being of beige Bangkok straw relieved with a cluster of tangerine berries. She carried a bouquet of golden shaded nemesia and Iceland poppies. Miss Frances Wimbridge (sister of the bride) attended as bridesmaid, gowned in a dainty frock of pink and mauve georgette ankle length, with shoes and stockings of pink. Her picture hat of lacy straw was trimmed with clusters of mauve and pink rosebuds and she carried a sheaf of wistaria and lilac Mr. Riordan (Greenbushes) carried out the duties of best man. After the ceremony the mother of the bride received the guests gowned in a frock of black and white morocain with hat of black chip straw. She carried a posy of violets. The Rev. Father O'Grady presided at the breakfast, and Mr Poat, of Picton, proposed the health of the happy couple. Numerous telegrams were read, the usual toasts honored, and the beautiful wedding cake cut, after which the bride and groom left by car for the metropolis. The bride travelled in a frock of autumn shaded floral georgette over which was worn a coat of navy wool crepe de chine, with leg of mutton sleeves and scarf collar of brick red moroccan. Her close fitting black rochelle straw hat was relieved with clusters of red berries and velvet. Wratten, of Colombo, and Miss Mary Francis Marwick, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Warren Marwick, of York. The Rev. Father E. M. Guegen, parish priest, officiated. The bride, who waa given away by Mr. A. Duncan, wore a graceful gown of peau dange lace, and cape with fur trimming, a large picture hat with shoes and gloves to match, and carried a shower bouquet of autumn tinted gerberas. She was attended by her sister. Miss Esme Marwick, who wore a frock of lime green flat crepe with crystal trimmings built on classical lines, with hat and shoes to tone. Her bouquet was of shaded pink carnations. Mr. H. R Wratten, brother of the bridegroom, acted as best man. A reception was held at Raglan, Bagateiie road. the residence of the bridegroom's parents. Mrs. C. H. Wratten. who acted as hostess, wore a charming gown of nigger brown lace, and carried a posy of crimson carnations. The health of the newly married couple was enthusiastically pledged before they left for their honeymoon. 304 | JENSEN - CREAM On Saturday, December 8, a wedding of interest to North-West folk took place at St. Mary's Cathedral, when Miss Ethel Cream, of Cobra Station, Upper Gascoyne, third daughter of the late Mr. William Cream (manager of Bidgemia Station) and Mrs. Cam, was married to Mr. Robert Jensen, second son of the late Mr. George Jensen, of Bullardoo Station, Mullewa, and Mrs. Jensen, of Melbourne The bride was given away by her brother. Mr. Ray Cream, and wore a beautiful ivory lace frock with the customary veil and orange blossom and carried a charming sheaf of white lilies. Her sister, Mrs.Frank Leeds, was matron of honor and wore a dnty frock of pink floral ninon with toque to tone and carried a bouquet of pink roses. Little Mary Leeds was trainbearer and was a pretty little figure in pink crepe de chine with a pink bonnet to match, and she carried a sweet posy of pink flowers. Mr. Jack Jensen was best man. 312 | 1941 'Advertising ST. MARY'S CATHEDRAL was the scene of the wedding yesterday, at 8-45 p.m., by Dr. Kennedy, of Joan Mary, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. G. Bennison, of Fifth-avenue, Mt. Lawley, and "Augustus William, youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. A. Haigh, of Redfern street. Subiaco. The bride, given away by her father, wore a frock of dull-finish crepe, with satin stripe, designed with high neckline finished with a roll collar. The skirt was inlet with a satin panel which formed a short train, and over this was worn a short tulle veil with a frangipani top-knot. She carried a sheaf of Easter lillies. Miss Agnes Bennison chose a bustled picture frock of mauve water wave taffeta, with shoulder length tulle veil held at the side with tiny bows. She carried a sheaf of. gladioli in tones of pink. Mr. Bill Gilbert was best man. Mrs. Bennison, wearing a frock of cyclamen sheer, received guests at Riley's Hall after the ceremony. 328 | 1888 'NEWS OF THE DAY Mr. W. Wimbridge, the energetic proprietor of the Pioneer Carriage Factory, in Hay Street, has just competed the largest order off the kind which has ever been, undertaken in Western Australia. Mr. Wimbridge has in fulfilment of a contract he entered into with Mr. A. B. Wright, turned out a splendid four in hand buggy and no less than six large fourwheeled skeleton waggons, together with a number of space wheels all the necessary fittings: and forty double bullock yokes. Each waggon is fitted with a powerful break, and the tires of the wheels are 4 inches broad by 1in. in thickness. The waggons are constructed (with of course the exception of the iron work, all of which was wrought by Mr. Wimbridge) entirely of W. A. timber York gum and morrel which was personally selected by the buider from the large and thoroughly seasoned stock always kept on hand by Messrs. Sermon Bros. of Northam. These large vehicles were ordered by Mr. Wright to assist him in carrying out bis contract to run the telegraph line to the Kimberley goldfields and each one is builtto carry 100 iron telegraph poles, which weigh 1 cwt. apiece. Mr. Wimbridge completed the whole of the order within the short space of six weeks, which speaks volumes in favour of his ability te fill the largest orders within the shortest possible space of time and also bears practical witness to the completeness of his large establishment. 329 | 1907 'Moonyoonooka Moonyoonooka. FAREWELL TO MR. PATTEN. (From Our Own Correspondent.) Moonyoonooka, March 30. A very enjoyable entertainment in the form of a farewell social was tendered to Mr. Patten and family on Wednesday evening, at the residence of Mr.Blayney, Moonyoonooka. The tables were tastefully arranged, and good cheer and enjoyment were evident in every face. Songs were given by Mrs. Brown, and Misses Whitehurst and Webber, and Messrs. Lynch, Morgan , Saddintrton, and Master Saunders. Mr. Lynch occupied the chair. He eulogised the guest, and expressed regret at his departure. These statements were endorsed by all. Mr. Patten feelingly respondcd. Mr. T. L. Brown, M.L.A., in responding to the toast of Parliament, after referring to political matters, expressed surprise at the older settlers leaving the district. He advised those remaining; behind not to give any more send offs. 331 | 1895 'WEDDINGS Ottaway - Pead A very pretty wedding took place at the English Church at Geraldton on 'Wednesday afternoon, July 24 the contracting parties being Mr. Alfred Ottaway who is in charge of the grocery department of Messrs. Wainwright and Co's business at Geraldton, and Miss Grace Evelyn Pead, fourth daughter of Mrs Alfred Pead of that town The bride, who was given away by Mr Vernon Birch, an old friend of the family looked charming indeed, becomingly gowned as she was its a dress of white satin trimmed with chiffon, and wearing a veil and wreath. The bride also carried an exquisitely pretty bridal bouquet. The bridesmaids were Misses Birch and Tottie Pead, a little sister of the bride. The former wore a dress of helitrope Creon, trimmed with moire silk, and cream lace, her hat being of cream lace, trimmed with helitrope ribbons, while the latter wore a dress of liberty silk, trimmed with green silk lace, and hat to match. The bride groom was accompanied by Mr. W. Evershed, as best man. The ceremony, which was witnessed by a large crowd of the friends and relatives of the bride and bridegroom was performed by the Rev. Canon Louch, and as the happy couple left the church they were deluged with rice, and a perfect shower of good wishes. Cake and wine were partaken of by the bride and bride groom and the guests at the residence of the bride's parents, shortly after which the newly married couple left for Greenough, en route to Perth, were they propose spending their honeymoon. ? 344 | Death of Mr.James W. Hayden The death occurred at the Hospital last night of Mr. James. W. Hayden, whose parents were amongst the earliest settlers of the district. Deceased, who had lived for some time in Victoria had lately been engaged in station work near Carnarvon. He came to Geraldton about a week ago suffering from pleurisy, and entered the Hospital for treatment . 345 | DEATH OF AN OLD RESIDENT DEATH OF AN OLD RESIDENT. The death of Mrs. Henrietta McConkey , of Rudd's Gully, at Geraldton, on Saturday morning, removes another of the fast-diminishing band of the oldest residents of the district. Her husband, the late John McConkey, died a few years ago. The deceased lady was highly respected, and was 75 years old at the time of death, which took place at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. Dan Marsh, jun., where she had been laid up for some weeks. She was a sister of Mrs. John Taylor and Mr. H. E. Oakley, both of Geraldton. She reared a large family, amongst her sons and daughters being the following: Messrs. W. L. McConkey T. McConkey A. N. McConkey Mesdames F. Hymus, D. Marsh, jun., A Garfoot, jun., G. Angel A. Harrison. The funeral took place on Sunday afternoon, the remains being interred in the Church of England Cemetery at Geraldton. Mr. Joshua Mills, M.L.C., Inspector Holmes, Mr. W. Moore, J.P., Mr. A. H. 346 | DEATH OF MRS E. GOULD A COLONIST OF LONG, STANDING. It was was with very great regret that a wide circle of frjends has heard of the death of Mrs Sarah Gould, wife of Mr Edward Jones Gould, senr which occurred on Sunday afternoon at the residence of her son, Mr John Gould, Eastern Road. The deceased was one of the oldest residents of this part of the State, and was greatly loved by all who knew her. She was within two or three months of celebrating coming out to Western Australia in 1862. Being in the colony for 58 of her 81 years. Native of Somerset England. They were for a time with the late Maitland Brown at Glengarry but after a while took up land at Rudds Gully, moving there until their retirement about 17 years ago.It has been carried on by Mr Joseph Gould. During their retirement they have lived principally with their son Mr John Gould at Eastern Road. A large family of five sons and six daughters were born to them, and there are now 85 grand children and 19 great grandchildren their descendants thus numbering 115.Their sons and daughters are as follows Mrs Brand .(Yuin), Mrs W Cream (Bidgemia) Mrs William Jupp (Nabawa) Samuel Jupp and Mrs Samuel Jupp (Nabawa) Mrs H E Hamersley Mrs Connelly (Walkaway) Messrs Robert Gould(Nabawa) John Gould George Gould Edward Gould Joseph Gould. The funeral, took place on Monday afternoon at the Anglican Cementry.The service being conducted by the Rev Rex A Craven. 348 | Death of Mrs Hayden FORMER GERALDTON RESIDENT A Roebourne correspondent telegraphs : Mrs Hayden. an old West Australian , passed away at her son-in-law's residence on Tuesday morning at the age of 70 years. The deceased lady was born at York in 1840. and for the last last twenty years carried on business as a boarding house keer at Geraldton but owing to bad health she had to give up the business, and came to Roebourne in May last. Up to last Thursday she appeared well, In the afternoon she complained of pains in the head, and collapsed shortly afterward and remained unconscious until her death on Tuesday morning. The funeral took place the same afternoon. Deceased leaves three daughters and two sons, and eighteen grand children to mourn her loss. Deceased was 70 years of age, and. was born in York.
