Link to Google MapsDroving - RURAL Topics A breakaway of cattle from a mob in open bush country must prove a trying and bewildering time for the drovers. One of such experiences is referred to in the Northern Times Carnarvon thus:- An unfortunate occurrence took place at Belang Pool to a mob of some 200 cattle belonging to Mr. Phil. Ryan, which were en route for Mullewa from Elliott Creek. Drover N. Kirwan was in charge, and passed Boundary Store on August 6 and reached Belang all right, but the cattle broke camp there and stampeded. No particulars as to the actual facts of the breakaway are to hand, but it will mean a considerable amount of time and trouble to get them together again, if the searchers are lucky enough to recover them all Mr. Don Ryan was to reach Mullewa from Perth, and would if possible, bring hands from Mullewa to aid in the search. Mean time Drover Kirwan and we understand several stockmen from neighbouring stations are endeavouring to get the mob together, but the country is a difficult one to muster. - 26 Sept 1920 - Belang Pool Western Australia Link to Google Earth

ear Non-Com. I've read all about your champion buckjump riders, etc, but how about our champion drover? What has become of some of the old brigade, Jimmy Crogan, who usually misplaced his boots when on a bender, Jack Brown, the gentleman drover, Bob Hayball, Nick Kirwan, and others too numerous to mention? They could tell some great yarns of droving days.
