OVERLANDED STOCK:
The condition of the overland stock route has, according to common report, been very bad for a considerable time so bad that it generally considered almost impossible to overland sheep successful this season.
Drover Chawner however recently had a good trip from Yannarrie to Mullewa arriving there towards the end of last month. He took delivery of 4000 fat wethers (in the wool) and got 30 thrown in for killers and wastage and delivered at Mullewa yards 3994.
Twenty-one were killed, three died, and six knocked up on the road. When the sheep were drafted at Mullewa 1300 were tops and the balance good forward stores. |

GASCOYNE STOCK MOVEMENTS:
Drover Chawner, who lifted a mob of 3000 ewes at Williambury about the end of November, advises that he has delivered the sheep in good order at Sandstone, with few losses. He reports he had a rough trip down.
A Rough Trip: On Monday of last week Drover Walter Chawner landed at Cue trucking yards 3000 ewes from Williambury Station in the North for Messrs. Morrison and Calder of Bulga Downs situated about 50 miles from Sandstone.
Drover Chawner had rather a rough trip there being but little feed on the stock route. The sheep arrived in very fair order but the horses suffered badly on the trip and some fresh ones had to be procured at Belele to complete the trip to Cue.
Through having to divert the sheep from the main road which runs through Moorarie Station and continue on the stock route to Wandarie Pool where the Peak Hill stock route is met and then on through Belele to Cue it meant a difference of 50 miles additional travelling and consequent loss of time.
This with the scarcity of feed along the route compelled the drover to complete his contract at Cue instead of delivering at Bulga Downs. New arrangements were made and the sheep were trucked from Cue to Sandstone on Thursday 27th ult. |
