COOMBE
On August 24, 1940, at his residence, 28 Glenroydstreet, Mt. Lawley, James Lean Coombe, husband of the late Rose Coombe, son of the late Thomas and Sarah Coombe; loving brother of Sir Thomas Coombe, of Adelaide, S.A., Bob (of Sydney), Cis (Mrs. J. Shaw), Anne (Mrs. R. Milbank), Gert (Mrs. Dennehy) and Doss (Mrs. Cecil Pead); aged 61 years. [1]

The Late Mr. J. L Coombe.
The death occurred at his home in Glenroyd
street. Mt. Lawley from a short illness,
of Mr. James L. Coombe. a son of the late
Thomas Coombe. sen, who founded the old
Perth timber mill and hardware company of
Coombe. Wood and Co. Born at Broken Hill.
the late Mr. Coombe was educated at Prince
Alfred College. Adelaide. and after qualifying
as a chemist, started business for himself
in Melbourne and Perth. Suffering ill
health, he left his chemist's business and for
Some years managed his father's farm. Karrakin.
in the Quairading district. In 1916
he Joined his brother Thomas (now Sir Thomas)
Coombe as partner in the Grand Theatre.
Murray-street. and acted as manager of the
theatre for about 12 years. During this
period his quiet. courteous manner endeared
him to all who came into contact with him
and on the purchase of the Coombe Brothers'
interests by Union Theatres. Ltd., in 1929. he
retired to private life. During recent years
he made many trips to other parts of the
world. including England. the Continent,
North and South America, China and 'Japan.
A sincere friend, with a particularly likable
disposition, he has throughout the last few
years maintained a keen interest in the film
industry. Mrs. Coombe Predeceased him on
September 3. 1939. There were no children.
The funeral took place in the Congrega
tional cemetery. Karrakatta, yesterday morn
ine, the Rev. A. W. Bray officiating at the
graveside. The chief mourners were:-Sir

H. Milbank, G. Dennehy and C. Pead (sis
ters). Messrs. J. Shaw and C. Pead (bro
thers-in-law). F. Shaw and Alan Pead (nep
