ATTEMPTED SUICIDE
A determined attempt at suicide was made on New Year morning at Bibbawarra by a man named Patrick Ronan. Ronan had gone out under engagement to cook for Drover C. James on a trip with stock to Meeberie Station, and in the morning Drover James left him at the camp whilst he went to count the sheep at Mungagee gate.
Some little while afterwards a native boy came across to Mr. James and told him that Ronan had shot himself and was dead. Mr. James immediately started for the camp, and meeting Messrs, A. Angelo and Perrett, who were out cattle hunting, the three accompanied by the native proceeded to investigate the matter.
Ronan had got up and was making for the bush when they arrived. He had a bad wound in the top of his forehead and was bleeding freely. On being questioned, he said he fired two shots at himself with a Winchester rifle, but owing to the barrel being too long he found it a difficult job and the first shot missed, but the second one took effect.
He said he was going away from the camp to die under a bush when they arrived. The police and doctor were telephoned for from the river ramp and Ronan was brought in and taken to the hospital. The wound we understand, is a serious one but late inquiries show that the unfortunate man is getting on as well as can be expected. |

MURCHISON FLOODS.
Train Still Held Up.Cue, March 16.
Heavy thunder and lightning last night passed to the northward. A few drops of rain M! at Cue and elsewhere in the district. In Lennonville 33 points fell causing the creek through Mt Magnet to run a banker.
There is nothing definite yet as to when a train wil1 reach here. The washaways at this end will be sufficiently repalred to allow the train to cross this weekend. Rain records just to hand from Cogla Downs show 7inches, and Taincrow 6inches.
Mr Woods, manager of Beringarra station, and drover Charlie James reached Cue on Saturday evening they left the car at Wire Pool. The water there was 6ft, Lake Nannine is overflowing, and the water is crossing the railway line near Nannine.
Lake Austin is still rising, and water is flowing across the causeway going south past the island. From reports to land it is evident that a good many sheep were drowned during last week. The carcasses of sheep and kangaroos have been noticed in the flood waters. |

Perth |
- Obituary.
General regret was expressed and felt when the news came through, during the week, of the death of Mr Charlie James, who succumbed in Perth after a serious operation.
The late gentleman was well-known in this district, having been engaged in the droving business for some considerable time past, previous to which he was a prominent bookmaker.
Although regretted, his demise did not come as a surprise as, since being injured by an infuriated camel at Meekatharra some time ago, he had never enjoyed good health, and while in Mullewa a few weeks back, was the object of sympathy from his numerous friends. [20]
- THE LATE CHARLES JAMES.
It is with regret that we report the death, of the well-known drover, Mr Charles James, which took place yesterday. Charlie James has for some months past been confined to hospital in the Metropolitan area, and lately his condition has caused much concern to his friends.
Probably Mr. Charlie James was one the best known drovers throughout the North West of this State, being constantly employed, for a number of years past, in moving large mobs of sheep and cattle from various points.
He proved very successful in his deliveries, always paying personal attention to the judicious movement of the stock under Ins charge.By his death the country loses a first-class stockman and a good citizen. [21]
