GINGIN NOTES
A flock of 1720 sheep belonging to Mr Gooch of "Cheriton" arrived in the district during the week. The sheep are in charge of Mr Troy and although they have travelled all the way from Carnarvon are very fair condition. It is said that not one sheep was lost during the whole trip. This speaks volumes for the care and ability of Mr Troy as a drover. The flock is at present running on a lease owned by Mr Gooch between Gingin and the coast. |

DRIVERS AND DROyERS
A correspondent writes referring to a recent trip by Drover H. Troy. Drover Troy, he says, delivered 5100 mixed sheep from the Ashburton for sale at Mullewa in June, having established a droving record, considering that half the mob were cull ewes and he got through without any losses, and also got a fair price at the sale.
Our correspondent states if owners were to get men like Troy to do their droving they would have better prices and fewer losses, remarking that there are a lot of drivers, but few drovers on the route. Referring to the stock route he says there is good feed and water and will be well into January next. |
