FAREWELL TO MR. PATTEN.

Moonyoonooka, March 30.
A very enjoyable entertainment in
the form of a farewell social was tendered
to Mr. Patten and family on
Wednesday evening, at the residence of
Mr.Blayney, Moonyoonooka. The
tables were tastefully arranged, and
good cheer and enjoyment were evident
in every face. Songs were given
by Mrs. Brown, and Misses Whitehurst
and Webber, and Messrs. Lynch, Morgan
, Saddintrton, and Master Saunders.
Mr. Lynch occupied the chair.
He eulogised the guest, and expressed
regret at his departure. These statements
were endorsed by all. Mr. Patten
feelingly respondcd. Mr. T. L.
Brown, M.L.A., in responding to the
toast of Parliament, after referring to
political matters, expressed surprise
at the older settlers leaving the district.
He advised those remaining; behind
not to give any more send offs.
Other toasts being honoured, dancing
commenced and lasted till daylight.Fix this text
Thus closed a most unique country

The death occurred last night at his residence at Bluff Pt. of Mr. Edgar Major Patten, an old resident of the district. Mr Patten, who was 72 years of age, retired to rest about nine o'clock.
He was heard to be breathing heavily, and when someone went to see what was the matter it was found he had passed away. For some time the deceased had been in indifferent health, suffering from an affection of the heart.
In the early days Mr. Patten was well known on the Murchison goldfields, carrying on the business of a carrier between Mullewa and the Black Range district. Subsequently he was engaged in farming at Yetna for some years but have this up two or three years ago, and had since lived at Bluff Point.
He had a large family, fourteen children altogether. He is survived by his wife, seven daughters, and two sons. There are 43 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. The funeral took place this afternoon at the Anglican Cemetery, amongst those present being members of Geraldton Lodge No.3, of which he was a member
