The space available at the railway trucking yards was taxed to its utmost on Wednesday when the mob of over 1300 cattle brought down from Balfour Downs and other North-West stations by the Cattle Overlanding Company, were offered for sale.
The cattle arrived in good condition after their long journey. Mr. James Alcorn and Messrs. Baumgarten and Sons drove the cattle in two mobs. The drovers complain of the state of the wells and conveniences at the Cue end of the trip. |

A RECORD DROVING TRIP.
Our Mullewa correspondent writes:-
What is unquestionably a record droving trip was completed just before
Xmas. Messrs. Baumgarten Bros, left Meekatharra 12 months ago, and lifted 500 head of cattle from Mt. Barnett Station in the Kimberley's the very top end of Western Australia, and brought, them to Karbar Station on the Murchison, the distance traversed being 2,800 miles. Of the 500 head of cattle they started with they landed 485. When one considers the state of the country traversed, which was extremely dry in some stages, this is a capital performance. Horses had to be fed most of the way. It is only natural a few cattle died on such a journey. One of the places passed was the now historic spot called Wallal. Very many hardships were encountered on this very long journey. The brothers have been spending Christmas in Mullewa with their friends, and they look extremely well after so trying a trip. |
